Bob Barker, legendary ‘Price is Right’ host, celebrates 99th birthday
Game show legend Bob Barker celebrated his 99th birthday on Monday, Dec 12. The former host of the show “The Price is Right” has a lot of love on social media on his big day. The professional wrestling community also wished him a happy birthday and shared a clip that showed Barker’s banter with Chris Jericho. The Price was Right premiered with Barker as the host in 1972. He retired in 2007 and handed the microphone to the comedian Drew Carey. Before appearing on the longest-running daytime game show, Barker had served as a naval aviator during World War II. The US Naval Institute tweeted that he had flown eight different aircraft.
He has also made several appearances in films and other television programs. He has also won 15 Emmy Awards, more than any other performer. He was also inducted into the Academy of Television Arts and Science’s Hall of Fame. Nancy Burnet is a long-time friend of Barker. She wrote in a birthday press release that Barker is doing very well and is aware of the love that he would be receiving on his birthday. Barker also hosted “The New Truth and Consequences” from 1956 through 1975. He also appeared on the TV series “How I Met Your Mother” and the movie “Happy Gilmore.” Fans of this movie remember the scene where Barker brutally beat Adam Sandler. He is also a renowned animal activist and has constantly urged his viewers to neuter or spay their pets to prevent cats and dogs from being euthanized in shelters.
He also served as a host for the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants. In 2013, “The Price is Right” celebrated his 90th birthday with an entire week of his shows and featured pet adoptions which are causing Barker often spoke about during his time on the show. He also made a special appearance in the studio to present a showcase and to help place a dog up for adoption.
